Samuel Kunstler is an accomplished and multifaceted French cellist who currently resides in Denmark. He is a laureate of numerous French national competitions and holds a Master’s Degree from the Juilliard School and a Bachelor’s Degree from the New England Conservatory of Music.
Samuel has extensive experience performing in solo recitals and chamber music concerts in France, the United States, and Denmark, collaborating with such prominent musicians as Andreas Brantelid, Lluis Claret, Daniel Heifetz, and Cæcilie Nørby, among others.
He also performs regularly in Denmark’s leading orchestras, and he previously served as a tenured member of the Brazilian Symphony Orchestra.
He made his debut recording in 2008 after being awarded a grant by the Rotary Club. The album, featuring Cello and Piano Sonatas by Rachmaninov and Prokofiev, received high praise from audiences and fellow musicians alike. World renowed cellist Lluis Claret stated that he “listened to the album with great pleasure.”
Samuel is also passionate about improvisation, which led him to complete the Berklee School of Music Jazz Improvisation class with jazz legend Gary Burton and to receive coachings from jazz cellist Stephan Braun.
Equally attracted to Jewish folk music, he has performed in Kleizmer bands with Michael Alpert, Henrik Goldschmidt and Hankus Netsky and was selected to be part of the David Krakauer Klezmer workshop at Carnegie Hall in 2007.
Additionally, Samuel has collaborated closely with singer-songwriter Magali Michaut and is prominently featured on her album “Impressionist.” He also appears on Andreas Odbjerg’s album “Un Homage.”
